After years of planning and a lot of patience, construction of the Steelworks Park has finally begun! The groundbreaking ceremony for the Steelworks Park, located north of the Steelworks Museum at 215 Canal Street, was held on June 19. Be sure to keep your eyes on our north parking lot adjacent to Interstate 25 between now and September, when construction is scheduled for completion. You might catch a glimpse of our construction crews moving some very large artifacts, such as a Davenport locomotive and a 130 ton ladle, from the grounds of the steel mill to the new park. In a addition to the locomotive and ladle, the park will also feature Mine Rescue Car No. 1, two coal carts, a large statue of a steelworker, and shaded landscaping with flowers, shrubs, and benches.
Though construction begins soon, we still need your help in completing this unique project. Please consider adopting a bench or purchasing a brick which, in addition to helping a great cause, will be an opportunity for you to honor a loved one (or a group of loved ones) that worked at the steel mill, St. Mary Corwin Hospital, or the Colorado Supply Company store. Thank you all very much for your ongoing support, and we hope to see you all there!
