The Bessemer Historical Society, Steelworks Museum and Colorado Fuel & Iron (CF&I) Archives are busy with projects and patrons as we enter the summer season and welcome visitors, students and researchers.  We are making great strides as we continue to fulfill our mission of protecting and preserving the history of the Bessemer neighborhood and CF&I. We need your support now more than ever.

This year marks the 140^th anniversary of Pueblo’s Steel Mill. We will be celebrating with an outdoor Steel’ebration on August 4, 2012 and hope you can join us for bus tours of the mill and the historic I-25 tunnel, an entertainment stage, a beer and wine garden, vendors and much more!

 Currently, we are focused on some key areas and projects including:

      -- Completion of a two-year National Endowment for the Humanities grant. We are making more records of the steel mill accessible including photographs, films, maps, drawings and financial ledgers.

      -- We have over 30,000 maps and drawings in our collection.  We have installed a digital media center with a high-resolution large format digital photo studio to help preserve these materials and allow more access to students, researchers and the public.

      -- Our educational programming and outreach have continued to grow. We have increased attendance in the areas of school tours, after school activities, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum and humanities programming.

           -- We are starting the plans and construction of a large outdoor exhibit park with a transportation and steel production theme.
