The aftermath of the flood left a mess on the hands of Puebloans. In the days before federal aid, the Army was deployed to the city with $100,000 assistance. CF&I workers were sent to help in the cleanup as well. Miners employed by the company sent aid funds and in some cases came to the city from the Trinidad and Walsenburg districts to provide manpower.
